Results Day creates a high-stakes environment where university marketing teams can lean towards using vacancy-led messaging. While “places available” campaigns are common, success in Clearing requires proving you have the right space, not just any space.
When students are making life-changing decisions in a matter of hours or days, many of them face a massive barrier: they cannot visit your campus in person before they commit.
If they cannot step onto your physical campus, your virtual experience has to do the heavy lifting. To win their confidence, you must bridge the geographical gap and project a genuine, reassuring sense of space and place.
Proving quality when physical visits are impossible
According to the recent UCAS Clearing Connection Report, 91% of students said that the quality of teaching facilities is a major factor when choosing their university.
During the rest of the recruitment cycle, you have months to show this off. You have open days, campus tours, conversion content, and face-to-face sessions within the walls of those facilities.
To understand what students are actually looking for during this high-pressure window, we analysed our aggregate Vepple dashboard data from the peak Clearing period between July and September 2025.
Our data revealed how subject-specific content (represented by the purple line on our user journey dashboards) consistently attracted huge portions of overall traffic between July and September, accounting for up to one-fifth of all platform engagement.
When students land on a virtual experience during Clearing, they don’t want a generic promotional video. They’re looking for the exact engineering lab, the specific nursing simulation ward, or the design studios where they will be spending the next three years. They are looking for tangible proof of the quality of your facilities.
If you only tell them about your world-class facilities in a block of flat text, you are missing a critical conversion window. By utilising interactive 360-degree views and rich, student-led digital content, you can let them step inside those rooms virtually and see that quality for themselves.
Easing accommodation anxiety with transparent digital tours
While facilities are the primary driver in the UCAS report, we cannot ignore what our own data says about student living.
On our Vepple dashboards, a second crucial trend emerged in the green traffic line: accommodation. Throughout the same July-to-September 2025 window, accommodation content became a massive priority for prospective students.
Engagement steadily climbed throughout the summer, peaking at a massive one-third of all platform traffic in the immediate lead-up to results week.
Yes, they care about their degree, but they are also asking themselves: “Where will I sleep? Is the accommodation nice? Can I actually see myself living here?”
Showing high-quality, transparent 360 panoramic views of your accommodation halls is the fastest way to alleviate that anxiety. When a university provides a clear, self-guided look inside their bedrooms, kitchens, and social spaces, it builds trust. It moves the conversation from “Do they have a room for me?” to “I can actually picture my life here.”
Visualising location, layout, and proximity
The same UCAS report also highlighted that 77% of students said location in the town or city was important when choosing their place.
But understanding a university’s geography is about more than just looking at a static map. Students need to grasp the relationship between their accommodation, their lecture theatres, and the local city centre. They need to understand the vibe of the campus layout and how easy it is to navigate their day-to-day life.
This is exactly why we built our Explore by Map module. It is designed to communicate a genuine sense of space and place. But the real impact comes from how you visualise this. A flat map tells a student where a building is; an interactive, content-rich map experience shows them how they will experience it.
Try the Explore by Map module below:
When you connect map locations directly to 360-degree tours, student ambassador videos, and walking-distance indicators, you make the campus feel real and accessible. You remove the geographical barrier for long-distance, international, or last-minute applicants.
